Today I was walking by the building of two art installations for the Malmö City Festival, both made out of “ready-made” elemements.
Two sculptures are woven out of flexible drain pipes like baskets. I really like the weaving idea. It makes me think of the first industrial machines. A weaving robot, like a mechanical spider is an idea that comes to my mind. The sculptures are by Mats Karlsson.
The other installation on the same street, Spångatan, I understand after reading on the web, consists out of 2000 plastic crates from Schoeller Arca Systems. The idea seems to be that the crates, in the structure (that are framing other exhibitions) will be sold off after the event.
The festival this year had 9000 visitors. Around 50 bands, some internatial and well known, performed on four stages during three days.
