Festivals

DSC00600Today I was walking by the building of two art installations for the Malmö City Festival, both made out of “ready-made” elemements.

Two sculptures are woven out of flexible drain pipes like baskets. I really like the weaving idea. It makes me think of the first industrial machines. A weaving robot, like a mechanical spider is an idea that comes to my mind. The sculptures are by Mats Karlsson.

DSC00602The other installation on the same street, Spångatan, I understand after reading on the web, consists out of 2000 plastic crates from Schoeller Arca Systems. The idea seems to be that the crates, in the structure (that are framing other exhibitions) will be sold off after the event.

The festival this year had 9000 visitors. Around 50 bands, some internatial and well known, performed on four stages during three days.

I´ll just upload an aerialview of the Site, which is on the grounds of what was the T4 Regement in Hässleholm. I´ll soon get some real plans from the festival-people I hope.

This is the Festival area as I remember it from 2008. Markan is the name of the festivals main building and also the name of the culture-association that has been there since 1989.

“Once a year, tens of thousands of participants gather to create Black Rock City in Nevada’s Black Rock Desert, dedicated to community, art, self-expression, and self-reliance. They depart one week later, having left no trace whatsoever.”  – Burning Man

For me the webpage is a great source of inspiration with loads of interesting concepts and art installations through the years since 1990. I think I understand what it´s about.  I´m sure I really want to go there.

Uchronia

A Burning Man Art Installation from 2006, made quite famous by several publications, is Uchronia, by Jan Kriekels and Arne Quinze.
